PPF, EPF, NPS, and gold in a net worth tracker

Most Google Sheets templates are built for 401(k)s and brokerage accounts. Indian wealth sits in PPF, EPF, NPS, gold, and property. If your tracker cannot name those, the dashboard is not yours.

PPF and EPF

Log PPF as a long-term debt instrument (government-backed) with the current passbook balance. Update after each financial-year contribution and interest credit.

EPF belongs as a retirement asset. Use the EPFO passbook or your employer portal. Include employee + employer corpus; that is the amount that would transfer if you changed jobs.

NPS

NPS has a market-linked value. Record the current corpus from the CRA login, not the amount you contributed. Treat it as locked until the rules allow partial withdrawal.

Gold and SGB

Physical gold, digital gold, and sovereign gold bonds should be separate line items. SGB has a tenure and interest; still count current value as an asset.

Revalue gold monthly or quarterly. A stale gram price quietly drifts your net worth.

Keep it in a sheet you own

CapitalMap lets you record these categories as assets, then syncs them to a Google Sheet in your Drive. You can open the Vault anytime — including after you stop using the app.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find my EPF balance?
Use the UMANG app or the EPFO member passbook after linking your UAN. Enter the total corpus as the current asset value.
Should jewellery count as an asset?
Only if you would sell it in a pinch and can estimate weight and purity. Many households track investment gold and skip sentimental jewellery.
